Overview
The ministry teams listed below represent hundreds of people--those who plan and implement First Church’s ministries, through the Coordinating Team, and those who participate in the ministries. New participants and new ideas are always welcome. For more information, contact Mimi Raper at

- Adult Christian Education
This group encourages growth and a mature understanding of the Christian faith by providing group settings for study and fellowship. They provide support, resources, and training, especially for adult Sunday School classes.
- Children and Families
Includes Sunday School, choir, Vacation Bible School, Tweeners, Family Camp, parent education, family visits to homebound members, and a host of other opportunities.
- College
Purpose is to provide a "home" for college students, including Sunday School, mission trips, retreats, and social events. - Communication
This group helps facilitate communication within our congregation and beyond.
- Congregational Care
Purpose is to minister to First Church members by keeping in touch with hospital patients and homebound members and others with special needs. We are a Stephen Ministry congregation.
- Evangelism
Purpose is to invite people to be part of our community and extend hospitality. Includes such ministries as the visitors’ center, visitors’ reception, and Coffee Cup Caravan.
- Membership
Purpose is to welcome new members and help them connect. Includes such ministries as First Church 101 and First Church 201.
- Mission
Purpose is to minister to those within our own congregation and far beyond, including the Tuesday breakfast for the homeless, Interfaith Hospitality Network, Hands-on-Housing, Faith Food Pantry, Mobile Loaves and Fishes, and mission trips to South Texas, New Mexico, Appalachia, and Russia.
- Music
Includes opportunities to sing in choirs in the Sanctuary or the Chapel, play handbells or other instruments, and to assist with children’s choirs.
- Older Adults
Purpose is to minister to the older adults of First Church, including planning social events, celebrations, trips, and providing services for homebound members.
- Worship
Purpose is to provide assistance to the pastors for each worship service and includes such ministries as coordinating the ushers and greeters for each service, coordinating the readers for each service and coordinating placement of the altar flowers.
- Youth
Includes four Sunday School classes, United Methodist Youth Fellowship (Sunday evenings), Merge (occasional city-wide youth meetings for fellowship and worship), retreats, mission trips, and many other ministries for Middle School and High School students.
