Youth Ministry

"I come because it's different from other groups I belong to. It doesn't matter what you are at school; here you can be more like you. It's fun to be together with friends and do the trips, but sometimes there is something more. I can't quite describe it, but that something more is why I keep coming back."
- a First Church youth

asp 2008The First Church youth program seeks to reach all areas of our city. Through our worship, programming, trips, retreats, fun nights and Bible studies, we seek to grow in love toward God and toward each other by cultivating a community of faith and friendship that welcomes all youth, nurtures the spiritual life of everyone involved and serves God's world. We know and understand that it is very possible to have a blast while striving to be all that God calls us to be.

cropwalk 2008Some special things you will find in our program are: an emphasis on hands-on missions with work weeks in Appalachia and Austin; Sunday evening sessions that combine an emphasis on prayer and the spiritual life with lively programs and fellowship; and highly committed United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) counselors.

Get on Board: Riding the Wave of Truth and Action
We’re heading back to the 1960’s for a week of study grounded in timeless Christian themes: obedience, kindness, forgiveness, boldness, and belief. For those of us who have learned about the sixties mainly through television, the 1960’s are a montage of social justice movements, idealism, inspirational leaders, the surfer culture in southern California, the hippie culture in northern California, radical new fashions, and rock ‘n’ roll. We’ll be focusing on the abbreviated, television version of the decade, albeit from a distinctly Christian perspective. Join us for the fun-filled week of Scripture, history, and how to apply both to our lives today. Let’s put our faith into action! Adult volunteers are still needed for this week of service and fun! For more information, please contact Cathy Stone, Director of Youth and Family Ministries, at cathy@fumcaustin.org or 478-5684 ext. 215.
