Sunday Parking

First-time visitors and those needing an accessible entrance may use the church parking lot at the southeast corner of 13th and Lavaca. Enter the parking lot from the marked entrance on Colorado Street.

Additional Free Sunday Parking Is Available At:

  • Texas Trial Lawyers Garage at the southwest corner of 13th and Lavaca; enter from 13th Street
  • Metered street spaces, which are free on Sundays

The Family Life Center entrance is at the northwest corner of 13th and Lavaca Streets. On Sunday mornings, look for the rainbow welcome flags.

During The Week:

  • Parking for church business is available at all times in spaces marked “Church Business” in the church parking lot at 13th and Lavaca.
  • Preschool spots may be used after 2:00PM.  Please do not park in spaces reserved for Texas Trial Lawyers Association at any time.
  • Monday through Saturday, on street parking is metered from 7:00AM- 6:00PM. Cost  is 25 cents for each 15 minutes – 3 hour maximum.

Accessibility Across Our Campus

During this period of renovation, worship is held each week in the Family Life Center at 13th and Lavaca Streets. The Family Life Center has a ramp at the main entrance, accessible restrooms on the first and second floors, and elevator access at the southwest corner of the Foyer. Ushers will be available to offer assistance, help you find worship seating, and locate other Sunday activities.

While the Sanctuary itself is under construction, the Sanctuary Building remains open on Sunday mornings for adult small groups. An accessible entrance is located at the North Entrance just off the church parking lot.  Elevator access is available just inside the North Entrance. The building has accessible bathrooms on the first and third floors.

Worship Service Details

This intimate, 50-minute service blends a traditional order of worship with an informal approach. 

Rev. Taylor Fuerst is the principal preacher and worship is centered on scripture, drawing together contemporary issues and the best of United Methodist tradition. 

Both traditional hymns and newer songs are sung by a variety of vocal ensembles, accompanied by piano and violin. 

The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated each week. 

This larger, traditional service lasts about 60 minutes. 

Music is led by our talented  choir and organist and features traditional church hymns and a variety of musical offerings. 

Rev. Taylor Fuerst is the principal preacher for this service, which also regularly features a brief message specifically for children called "a time for young disciples," when children can join her at the altar to learn about our Christian faith. 

The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.

This casual, interactive service is held once a month as part of our Third Sundays Together and is followed by a monthly Community Meal. 

The worship features leadership from Devon Bailey, Director of Youth Ministry, and preaching from a variety of voices. Music is led by a worship band and features  modern secular and sacred music. 

Participants of all ages are invited to interact during worship in various ways including prayer stations, table conversations, art and coloring, and other creative responses. 

The sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated at each Modern Worship service.

Infants and Children in Worship

Worship Bulletins

Worship bulletins are available with crayons and scriptural puzzle pages that provide quiet ways to focus energy for preschool and elementary age children, ages 3-11 years. These can be found on the red cart in the worship space.  Children may use them during worship services and then return the crayons and clipboards to the baskets following the service.

Time With Young Disciples

Children are encouraged to engage in our Time with Young Disciples during the 11:00AM service. This is a great chance for children to get up, move around, gather near the pastors and altar, and participate fully in worship.

Family Room

For parents who wish to remain close to their infants and toddlers while still attending worship, a temporary Family Room is available just off of Family Life Center's Great Hall.

Come as you are. You’ll see everything from jeans and T-shirts to dresses and collared shirts. All of our services are casual and welcoming; wear whatever makes you comfortable.

There are many ways to find connection and participate at First Church—from worship and learning to service, small groups, and community events. No class or membership is required. Just come as you are and when you can.

If you decide you’re interested in becoming a member, First Steps offers an opportunity to learn about United Methodist beliefs and the ministries of FUMC, meet our pastors and others exploring membership, and ask questions. Here’s how to begin:

  • Indicate your interest by filling out the paper Connections card during worship or submit it online, or email Rachel Wright at rachel@fumcaustin.org.
  • Attend a First Steps session with our pastors offered periodically after the 11:00AM worship service. The process of joining the church is discussed during First Steps.
